Employability

Mentoring

This year, we have been involved in mentoring the Level 4 students during their festivals they have to take part in throughout the year. We had to go in to university on the day of their coaching festival prior to the session and find out what they had planned for the session, read through the learning outcomes and provide them insights into how we found the festivals last year and how they can use it to become more successful coaches with the experience.

We then watched them run the session once and through questioning, provided them with feedback based on pedagogical features of the session and the curriculum of the session and how they can improve this for the second time they ran the session.

Then we proceeded to watch them run the same session again with hopes they had made the correct improvements based off of prior feedback.

From this experience, I have realised how important it is to gain knowledge and information from people who have got more experience then what you may have and have been through the process of learning themselves as they can share what they have learnt and provide them with key advice they may need.

With this experience, it has made me more employable as it has allowed me to become a better leader and mentor to people who may have less experience, and in any workplace, this can be an important skill if any newer employees come into the company. On top of this, it allows me to understand that if people are mentoring me, I need to listen to what they advise to learn more and become a better employee.
